Wildwood Traffic Survey
Update December 2007

Wildwood Traffic Survey Update

The Wildwood Community Association Traffic Survey was a great success. We received 204 responses out of approximately 1150 households (nearly 18%), and we are pleased with the level of response from Wildwood residents.

To the question of whether you have concerns about traffic in Wildwood, 175 respondents answered "yes", and 29 respondents answered "no".

The most commonly identified issue was "speed" (overall as well as in specific locations), and "enforcement" was identified as the #1 solution to deal with this issue.

If you are looking for the results to the full survey, here they are.

Your Community Association is currently discussing ways to share this information with the City and the City Police and to identify ways to initiate action to address people?s concerns. Issues that can possibly be dealt with separately, such as jay-walking and U-turns at the school, have already been passed on to the school administration. If any actions beyond enforcement are considered, we will ensure that you will be given an opportunity to provide your input prior to initiation.

We thank you very much for your participation - it is much appreciated!

Wildwood Community Hall Redevelopment
Update - November 2005

Preparations for the first phase of the hall redevelopment will be summarized and proposed at the community meeting in either January of February 2006. If you have any input, pleae contact webmaster@wildwoodcommunity.com with your feedback.

The Hall Re-Development Committee held an Open House to provide information to community members and all other stakeholders about the potential hall renovations. There were many interior and exterior proposals to be considered and the opportunity to provide feedback to the committee was provided. In case you could not make it to the open house, here is some of the information that was provided.

Wildwood Community Hall Renovation Subcommittee

Purpose of open house: To present a series of ideas to the community that addresses the physical deterioration of the hall components, the enhancement of functional areas, as well as the exterior patio, landscaping and additional structures. The concepts that are being presented address the Life Cycle concerns, the pride the community has in our building, as well as offering a more attractive and rentable space to our members. The opinions gathered from community members will inform the committee of what the priorities are and what direction the redevelopment should take.

A second open house will then occur with more detailed plans being presented. Please look for future details in editions of the Wildwood Warbler. Ed Reuther contact information: Phone: 240-4972; E-mail: ereuther@shaw.ca or James Obrigewitch Phone: 249-3247; Email: james.obrigewitch@gmail.com

Development Issues - Wildwood - Bow Trail - Spruce Cliff
- Info from Ed Reuther
Update - November 2005

November 2005
1) Bow Trail Widening - Bow Trail Widening Meeting on September 28th for residents of Worchester Drive. City showed their preliminary plans to give an extra third lane going west. The extra lane is achieved by reducing the width of Worchester Drive from 8m to 6m and changing it to one lane for parking and one lane for west bound traffic, one-way only. At areas where they propose a bus stop, additional room is taken for Worchester Drive leaving some residents with no parking in front of their homes. The city is proposing a 2.6m high sound wall between 38th street and 45th street. The wall will be made of Allen blocks with a few areas using translucent glass blocks at the tope. At the bus stops they will use translucent glass so that you can see into the bus stop area. The sound wall is proposed because even today the sound levels on Worchester Drive are above the city standards.

There will be an open house for all residents in the area, some time in November (or later).

February 2005
1) Bow Trail Widening - Notice has been received that the next Bow Trail Open House will be on Thursday February 3rd at the Woodcliff United Church from 4 to 8 pm., with Ald. Burrows in attendance.

2) Dry Pond at Spruce Drive and Worcester Drive - west end - In talking with Terry Prince, Manager of Engineering at the City, he informs me that the dry pond is being kept in a natural state as requested by the Edworthy Park Heritage Society. There were some concerns expressed that it was just being ignored and was becoming unwieldy. Maintaining the natural look is efficient, provides cover for birds, and is certainly in keeping with the theme of Wildwood which is to try and be in harmony with our natural surroundings.

November 2004
1) Westgate Hotel site - The architectural renderings are now finally available for viewing on Intergulf's web site. Go to http://www.registerforwestgate.com/ and you can see the full colour drawings for the new development which will be called Brava at Westgate Park. This also provides a registration form for those interested in possible purchase information.

2) Bow Trail - The city should be holding the next of the Open Houses to bring us up-to-date with what their information gathering and planning sessions have been able to determine in mid to late November. Hopefully this will provide us with a more concise view of the planned Bow Tr. widening and its impact on our community.

Update - June 2004

October 2004
1) Bow Trail - There is no definitive news yet as to how the houses on Worcester Dr. and St. Michael's church will be affected by the widening of Bow Trail. Alderman Craig Burrows attended our latest meeting and said he plans to meet with the affected residents prior to the next public Open House by the city. He also said he will keep the speed down to 60 km/h on the new roadway. Alderman Burrows did not provide his insight as to the sustainability of the church or the housing at this time.

2) Westgate Hotel - The demolition of the Westgate Hotel is now well underway and may be complete by the time you read this. Excavation for construction of the first phase should start soon after. Ed has received copies of the proposed plans for the new buildings and he will make them available for viewing at our next Community Association meeting.
