The Annual Leaf & Pumpkin Drop
Off Program will run from September 24 - November
13, 2005
Due to the large volumes of leaves that are
added to the regular garbage stream each fall, the City of Calgary Waste &
Recycling Services began operating a leaf drop off program to compost
residential leaves. Each fall, residents can drop off their bagged leaves and
pumpkins at one of the depot locations throughout the city or at any of
the three city landfills free of charge. We will compost the leaves
and pumpkins for use by the Calgary Zoo and City facilities.
Wildwood residents can drop their leaves and pumpkins off at the Wildwood Community Centre, 4411 Spruce Dr. SW.
In 2004, 1.2M kg of leaves and pumpkins were
composted through this program. By participating in
the Leaf and Purmpkin Drop Off Program, residents
help keep garbage collection crews on schedule during
peak volumes of seasonal waste, extend the life of
landfills and recycle a natural resource into compost.
